This Virtual Reality Treadmill Could Be The ‘Holy Grail’ Of Video Game Controllers

The tech world may be buzzing about the Oculus Rift — the newest virtual reality head-mounted display — but for those lucky enough to own a Rift, all eyes are on the Virtuix Omni’s Kickstarter debut.

The omni-directional treadmill will allow gamers to literally “get off the couch” and walk/sprint around games’ environments, utilizing a bowl-shaped, low-friction surface and matching shoes. The Omni is set to launch its Kickstarter crowdfunding page on Tuesday, with a promised endorsement from the founder of the Oculus Rift himself, Palmer Lucky, in a move that bodes well for the Omni’s future implementation in games.

Designed to be used in tandem with a head-mounted display such as the Oculus Rift, the Virtuix Omni is likely the last remaining piece for creating the Holy Grail of virtual reality setups. With Razer’s positional-tracking controller, the Hydra, recently finding its niche with Rift owners, the Virtuix Omni offers enthusiasts the chance to be mobile as well.

Keep an eye on Virtuix’s homepage for more information on the upcoming Kickstarter launch.

Google Glass Gets Its First Porn App

The first porn app came to Google Glass on Monday, called — in true tongue-in-cheek form — “Tits and Glass.”

Adult company MiKandi is behind the first adult-centric app intended for the high-tech specs, allowing users to watch videos and photos filmed with Google Glass. The app is available for download now, but those without the device can still browse and interact on the site.

“Unlike other hands-free recording devices, wearing Glass is easy and familiar,” MiKandi co-founder Jennifer McEwen told Mashable. “Because of that, you can forget about the technology on your head and be in the moment. The result is an authentic look at the wearer’s experiences.”

The company is also interested in making the experience more intimate for adults.

“Besides point-of-view content, we’re interested in Glass’ potential to facilitate two-way adult interaction. For example, between long-distance couples, cam models and fans or strangers.”

Although the porn industry has been fast to adopt emerging technology, McEwen said it has actually slowed in terms of innovation within the last few years.

“The old adage that porn drives tech is sadly no longer true,” she said. “Over the last decade, adult companies have seen themselves locked out of more and more technologies and services — the latest being mobile applications. Adopting new technology is costly and time consuming, so it’s no wonder why some the industry have become risk adverse.”

Not all adult companies see the value of implementing time and resources into embracing the new technology.

“The reaction to Google Glass has been 50/50 between companies such as MiKandi, who see the potential of this new device and plan to develop products for it, and those who prefer to wait and see,” McEwen said. “We’re excited at the possibilities Glass holds for more interactive applications as the technology matures.”

Rumor: Sense-Free HTC One in the Works

Despite official claims to the contrary, HTC will be releasing a variant of HTC One with stock Android, Geek claims citing unspecified sources.

HTC’s flagship smartphone without the company’s Sense UI should be announced “within two weeks,” with a full release in the summer.

Sources claim the device would first become available in the U.S., and a launch under Google’s wing — similar to the Galaxy S4 Google Edition — is also a possibility.

Though many users are excited about the idea of a Sense-less HTC One — it would, after all, be one of the most powerful devices with stock Android you can get — we’d take any HTC-related rumors with a grain of salt. With the recent staff departures and reports that the company is in disarray, anything can happen.
